Annacurra picked up a valuable point against Arklow in Pearse Park on a sunny Saturday evening. Arklow started best taking the 1st score but after this Annacurra woke up and enjoyed a great spell scoring 1-4 with the goal coming from Clive Horan after great work from John Thompson and Mark O Neill. Michael Healy tapped over 2 points from wing forward before being moved into corner back. Alan Horan scored Annacurra’s last point of the half and proved to be their last point until the later stages in the 2nd half. Annacurra controlled the 1st half and went in at half time with lead of 1-4 to 3 points but were reduced to 14 when Shane McAllister was shown the red card in the later stages of the 2nd half.
The 2nd half was a complete different story with Arklow using their extra man with great effect. Arklow took their 1st score of the half within the first 10 seconds of the restart and never looked back from there scoring several points without reply. As the game looked to be going the way of Arklow, Clive Horan knocked over a point for Annacurra before going off injured and being 2 points down with 5 minutes left Mark O Neill collected the ball just inside the twenty and left the Arklo defenders for dead before blasting the ball into the roof of the Arklow net. Arklow were able to regroup and find an equaliser and will feel unlucky after hitting the unright twice in the closing stages.
Annacurra came for maximum points and looked impressive with 15 players and it looked like they were going to steam roller Arklow but when they went down to 14 men Arklow made them pay.
This could be seen as a point dropped but at the end was a point gained.
