Annacurra Top Their Group

Annacurra finished top of their group in the Intermedite Championship on  a wet Friday night with maximum points. In their final game of the group stages they came up against a tough Bray team who still could book themselves a place in the semi final with a win.

The game was a tense encounter to start but Annacurra raced into a lead with an excellent Frank Clune point in the first couple of minutes. This was soon followed by a curling Alan Horan effort. Bray hit 5 wides in the first 11 minutes and their first score came from a 45 in the 16th minute. From a kickout Annacurra worked the ball forward excellently and Patrick Moules got a very nice score. For the rest of the half Annacurra dominated and led at half time by 5 points to 3 with Bray only getting 1 point from play

Bray came out of the blocks stronger in the second half. Two frees brought them level in the first couple of minutes. In the 43rd minute a move between Alan Horan and Patrick Moules resulted in a point by Clive Horan. Annacurra started to pull away at this stage with Clive, Patrick Moules and Alan Horan all adding to the scoreboard.

At this stage the game looked beyond Bray. However a scramble in the goalmouth in the 57th minute resulted in the ball being kicked into the Annacurra net by a Bray forward. This was followed by a point from a free in the 60th and final minute. Bray pressed forward for the equalising point but a move down the right hand side of the pitch resulted in Ian McDonald kicking the insurance point in the 2nd minute of injury time. The referee blew the final whistle soon after and Bray were eliminated from the Championship by a score of 0-11 to 1-06.

Annacurra progress and eagerly await the runner up from the second Intermediate group.
