Kiltegan 0-9 Annacurra 0-9 5/6/09

Things are going from bad to worse
for Kiltegan! In any sort of normal circumstances they would have been
expected to get a win over the Annacurra Intermediate team in the
league at Kiltegan.

However emigration has taken at least a third
of their championship winning team and now another one third are on the
injured list. They were only able to call on four of the team that
started in the county final for this match.

Injury-time points by Frank Clune and Mick O’Brien earned Annacurra
a draw with Kiltegan in Division 1 of the Senior Football League at
Kiltegan on Friday evening.

Kiltegan started well but veteran Ciarán Shannon got Annacurra’s
first point and they stayed in contention right through. The home side
led by two points – 0-6 to 0-4 – at half-time and were still clinging
to that slender lead at the end of the hour.

However, Annacurra never gave up the chase and reaped the reward for their persistence with a valuable point in the end.

Pádraig Keogh was Kiltegan’s top scorer with four points; James
Doyle got 0-2 with Keith Furlong, James Whelan and Blaine Harmon scoing
0-1 each.

Annacurra were also a bit below full strength, missing among others
county player Alan Byrne. Their scorers were Frank Clune ( 0-5), Mick
O’Brien, Clive Horan, Willie Codd and Ciarán Shannon (0-1 each).

GAA 125th anniversary celebrations

Senior 7s winners

Last sunday the 125th anniversary of the GAA was celebrated in Annacurra.

It began with a march from the church to the pitch involving all club members young and old.

A fantastic effort was put into the celebrations which involved 7 a side games involving under 8s all the way up to the seniors. In the hall was an interesting mix of old newpaper articles documenting the roots of the GAA in wicklow, medals of victories past and numerous photos of Annacurra team down through the years.

A special shout out is deserved to all those who worked away serving sandwiches and snacks in the hall, they went down a treat.
