Lá na Club and Duck Race Results

The club held a very successful club celebration day on Saturday the 1st of June. The event was very well attended and seemed to be much enjoyed by all.

The day kicked off in the afternoon with the annual Ciaran Shannon 7 a side competition comprising three teams from within the club competing against each other. Each team played each other.

There was then a break for the adult players and the juvenile’s took over with a great display of their skills and abilities.

The final of the Ciaran Shannon competition was next and was won by the team captained by Vinny Flaherty, the team included Vinny, Robert Fitzgerald, Ian McDonald, Dean Barnes, Tom Byrne and Tom Doyle. Well done to all that participated.

The day was capped off with the Duck Race which was very well subscribed and much enjoyed by the children of the parish as they waited for the ducks to reach the finish line. The prize winners were:

  • First – Jack O’Sullivan
  • Second – Martin Fitzgerald
  • Third – Ian McDonald

The success of the Duck race was down to the hard work and commitment of Kevin Stapleton. The club would like to sincerely thank Kevin for all the hard work and diligence he put in in making the Duck Race such a succes. We would also like to help all the others who helped out, Paul and Ian McDonald, John and Patrick O’Neill, James and Robert Fitzgerald, Martin O’Brien, Tom Byrne and anyone else who helped.

Robert Doyle Steps Down After 3 Great Years

Robert Doyle receives his IFC medal from the great Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh

After three very successful years with Annacurra, Robert Doyle has left his position of manager in the previous weeks. The club enjoyed a very successful period under Robert’s leadership and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

Robert took the reins in 2010 and the impact was immediate as he steered the club to the illusive Intermediate title that the club craved. Ironically, Robert was the manager of Carnew who defeated us in the dying moments of the 2008 final which was one of many that slipped away over the 00’s. The following season, he helped steer the club to promotion to division 1 and a senior quarter final. This year the club retained their status in both areas and were very comfortable in the league table.

Despite his tender years, Robert has already compiled an impressive cv with 2 intermediate titles and a division 1 and 2 title to his name. No doubt he may be back in a hotseat again soon but fingers crossed he will not be a thorn in our side.

We hope he can look back with fondness on his time in our club and we hope to see him down again soon. All the best Rob.
