Weekly Notes 4/3/12

The club dinner dance was held in the past few weeks. The night went down as a great success with a good attendance from all involved in the club. Guest speaker on the night was Pat Mitchell and he praised the club on regaining and retaining senior status in the past year. Awards on the night where given out to Senior Player of the year, Paul McDonald, Junior Player of the year, Shane O’Neill, Clubperson of the year, Declan Byrne and two special awards. One to Martin Fitzgerald for his achievements with the senior ladies county team and All Ireland success in the past year. The other special award went to Ann Byrne, Ann does great work in the club as she is at the heart of almost everything. She does great work in washing and organising the jerseys for every team in the club as well as the outstanding work done in the lotto every week. Hard luck to the county under 21 team who lost their championship match against Carlow in the last week, we were represented by Martin O’Brien on the team. Also, hard luck to Alan Byrne and the senior county team who lost their recent league match against Waterford. The final of the Dawn Lacey Cup ended in a draw after a  hard fought match against Arklow Geraldines lately, the replay of this match will be played in the near future. The senior team had the first game of the league over the weekend away to Stratford. Unfortunatly it ended in a loss for our lads by a single point. A tough start but positives can be taken from the game like the performances of the younger players who just arived into the senior ranks. Club membership is now being collected and can be payed to John O’Neill or James Fitzgerald, €50 for players, €20 for students and unemployed and €20 for non playing members. Commiserations to the Doyle family, Coolbawn on the death of Paddy and also the Donnegan family on the death of Des.
